Not Like You

03/21/2022

Our spiritual journey this Advent has passed the twentieth day. How are you doing in looking at yourself and coming to some conclusions? To be honest, this is not an easy task. I would hazard a guess that many of us don't know what to look for anymore. Oh, yes there are blatant miss steps we have taken care of as we stand up and deal with it in God's presence. But then again, we can get bogged down, consumed with the minutia of the small stuff.

The reason we find ourselves here at this point may be due to our focus is not on what we need to correct or get rid of, but our focus on what others have to deal with. Sometimes we are looking at other and saying to ourselves, 'I'm doing better than they are or I don't have their problem or even, saying, I'm glad I'm not them.'

So, stop for a minute or two or thirty. Lent is not about comparison to others. It is an inward search of self. A journey if you will: to, one by one, deal with each unbecoming character of ourselves that don't compare to others but compare to Christ Himself. Hebrews 12:2 reads; "fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith."

We can always find individuals who are not so good at being good, who in comparison, we see ourselves as saints. But that is not what Lent is about. It's the inward comparison of ourselves and 'What would Jesus do?' WWJD. Now, let's start again. Let's look at the supreme example of who our model is and find where, what, why and how, we can change to be like Him.

Something to think about.
